How to set up a meme soundboard and a ringtone

Two jobs get mixed together because they both start on a sound button. A soundboard is a page of pads you play in the browser. A ringtone is a file your phone plays when someone calls. Meme Instants can do the first one itself. For the second, it only gives you the audio. Your phone’s settings do the rest.

Use the soundboard half when you want several jokes in one place, at your desk or passed around a party. Use the ringtone half when you want one clip to live on the phone after you close the tab. The Meme Instants app keeps that soundboard on your phone in one tap, so the buttons stay with you after you leave the site.

Open a soundboard that already exists

The site publishes boards of related sounds. In the navigation, open Soundboards. Each card names the board and shows how many sounds it has and how often they are played. Open a card and you get a grid of buttons. Press one to play it. You can search inside that board or jump out to search every sound.

This is the fastest setup. You do not upload audio and you do not arrange pads. Someone already grouped them. If a board is empty, go back to the list and pick another. A useful board is one you can hand to a friend: they open the same address and the same buttons are there.

The soundboard list is not translated into a different product per country. The address is /soundboards on every language version of this guide. Individual sounds inside a board still link to the language you are browsing when you open them from a chart.

  1. Open Soundboards from the menu, or go to /soundboards.
  2. Pick a board by name.
  3. Press a pad and listen.
  4. Leave the tab open if you are about to play several in a row.

Build a board from sounds you just played

There is a second kind of board, made from your own session. Play a run of sounds on the chart or on a sound page. After a burst of plays, the site can offer to share those sounds with your friends. The prompt says “Share the sounds you played with your friends”. The button under it is View Sound Board.

That button opens a page whose address starts with /soundboard and lists the sound ids you played, plus a title. The default title is My Instant Buttons Soundboard. The board holds up to twenty sounds. Order follows what you played, and repeats are dropped. If you have not played anything shareable, there is no link to copy.

Copy that address or use Share on the prompt. Anyone with the link gets the same pads. This is the setup to use when the curated boards are close but not the joke you actually want. It is also the link to send after a party, instead of five separate sound pages.

The board is a link, not an account. You do not log in to save it. If you lose the address, play the sounds again and make a new one. Treat the URL like a message you meant to keep.

Download one sound

A ringtone starts as a download, not as a board. Open the sound page for the clip you want. Tap Download. The browser saves the audio file. The label on the button is Download. Share and Copy link are next to it, but they send the page, not the file.

Check the download folder before you dig through phone settings. Play the file once from the Files app or the browser’s download list so you know you grabbed the right clip. If the sound is long, it may be a poor ringtone even if it is a great button. Phone ringtone tools usually want a short clip. Trim it in the phone’s own app if you need to. The website does not trim it for you.

Set it as a ringtone on the phone

Meme Instants does not have a Set as ringtone button. The site cannot change your call sound. After Download, you use the phone.

On many Android phones, open Settings, then Sound or Sound and vibration, then Ringtone. If you see Add or a file picker, choose the file you downloaded. Some phones only list audio that sits in a Ringtones folder. Move the download there with the Files app, then open the ringtone picker again. A few phones also let you long-press the file and choose Set as ringtone. The menu name depends on the manufacturer. If that item is missing, the settings path above is the one that still works.

On an iPhone, a downloaded meme file is not a ringtone yet. Apple wants a ringtone file under about thirty seconds. The practical path is GarageBand: import the audio, trim it under thirty seconds, then use Share and export it as a ringtone. After that, open Settings, Sounds and Haptics, and Ringtone. The new tone shows up with the other GarageBand tones. You can also assign a short sound as a text tone the same way. The website step ends at Download. GarageBand and Settings are Apple’s apps, not ours.

If the phone refuses the file, it is usually the length or the folder, not a broken button on the site. Download the clip again from the sound page and retry the phone steps. Do not pay a random converter site for a file you can already save from Download.

  1. Open the sound and tap Download.
  2. Confirm the file plays from your downloads.
  3. On Android, add it from the ringtone settings, or move it into the Ringtones folder first.
  4. On iPhone, trim it in GarageBand, export as a ringtone, then pick it under Sounds and Haptics.

Which one you actually wanted

If you wanted friends to press buttons with you, send a soundboard link or a single sound link. You never need the file. If you wanted your phone to ring with the joke, you need the download and the phone settings, and you can ignore the boards.

Playing a sound out loud for people in the room is the prank guide. Sending one page into a chat is the share guide. This page is only the board and the ringtone.

When the ringtone is set, play a test call from another phone or use the preview in the ringtone list. The browser tab can close. The board link, if you made one, keeps working on its own.
